Making the lean
manufacturing process work for you
The lean manufacturing process is an ongoing
work, with no end possible. This is one reason why it is not so
easy to "define", much less attain. Because it it a process,
you are always striving to improve.
If you want to learn how to use the lean
manufacturing process, I highly recommend the Lean
Manufacturing web-based training course. You will get a
thorough understanding of all the components of lean
manufacturing, including Value Stream Mapping, 5S, six
sigma, and much more.
Once you have made a commitment to begin your
lean manufacturing process, you must decide if you are able to
implement such an ongoing program by using your in-house
personnel, or if you should hire one of the many lean
manufacturing consultants.
One way to begin is to ask other people in a similar
industry and size company. You can learn a great deal from the
experience of others. Word of mouth recommendations are always
the best as well. A wise man learns from the mistakes of
others! Online business
training can help you find business training to help
for your small business.

Common
sense prevails
If you ask a
manufacturer who has successfully implemented the lean
manufacturing process, you will find that they truly like it
because it is just common sense. The big differrence is that it
is monitored and sustained company wide, or at least within a
work area or department.
Once a system
is in place, it is rather like another spoke on a wheel, making
it stronger and better. The lean manufacturing process must be
used as a whole, an integrated program. Each component is like
the spokes of the wheel, with the support and strength coming
from each one.
It will not do
much good to attempt a sort of piecemeal approach because the
organization has so many components, and each one has unique
needs and requirements. The lean manufacturing process
addresses these needs and incorporates them into an integrated
program.
